Tap the hazard, tap the control you put in place, and keep the benefit you protected ("kept the stream play, added 1:1 supervision"). A risk assessment lists what could go wrong; risk-benefit asks what the child gets — and it's how you say yes to the fire, the tools and the water instead of cancelling them. Five seconds, glove-friendly, and append-only, so the record stays honest.

Write the safe-use procedure for each tool once — the froe, the bow saw, the knife — with the PPE and the checks that matter, and keep it a tap away in the woods. Fire and tool assessments stack onto the session and every leader signs them, and the fire circle and tool area are on the daily site check before a single child arrives.
Safe by design
A child without photo consent simply can't be photographed. The camera won't open, and it's re-checked on upload so the rule can't be bypassed. Safeguarding concerns are sealed to your designated lead only: never visible to general staff, and never to us.
Holistic development
Capture a moment with your voice or a quick tap, tag who it's about and which areas of development it shows (physical, social, emotional, cognitive, language) and add a consented photo. Each observation joins that child's journey, building a picture across the term that feeds your next plan.
Plan warm, at the desk
Build reusable risk-benefit assessments once, then stack the right ones onto each session so they ride along into the field. Keep each site's emergency action plan (grid reference, nearest A&E, access) where you'll actually need it, and let a session start from a plan or from nothing when the day just happens.
Families & places
Share one link and parents reserve their child's place without an app or an account using just their email. Set the capacity and it waitlists the rest for you. When you open the session in the woods, the children who booked are already on the register: the booking list and the attendance record are the same thing, not two systems to reconcile.
Written as you go
Every session becomes a tidy PDF: register and ratios, the weather decision, every dynamic risk, incidents, medication, tools and fire, and your reflection. It builds itself while you work, so the evening write-up is already done — and if a parent, a funder or anyone else asks to see one, it's there.
