Willow lanterns for the winter solstice
Bend willow into a frame, cover it with tissue paper, and carry it through the woods on the shortest day.
How it goes
- Each child makes a base square or triangle of willow, bound at the corners with masking tape.
- Bend longer willow wands up from the corners and tie them at the top.
- Glue on squares of tissue paper with watered-down PVA.
- Leave to dry, then fit a battery tealight inside.
- Walk the woods at dusk with the lanterns, and talk about why the light comes back from here.
