Pine cone bird feeders

Spread a pine cone with lard, roll it in seed and hang it in a tree. Come back next week to see who has visited.

How it goes

  1. Tie string round the top of each open pine cone.
  2. Spread it with soft lard or vegetable suet, pushing it into the gaps.
  3. Roll it in bird seed.
  4. Hang it where you can see it from your base, out of reach of cats.
  5. Keep a tally of the birds that visit.
