Blackberry crumble on the fire
Pick blackberries along the hedge, top them with a rubbed-in crumble mix, and bake it in a Dutch oven on the embers.
How it goes
- Pick blackberries at child height, from patches the leader has checked, away from paths.
- Rinse them and tip into a greased Dutch oven or a foil tray.
- Rub butter into flour and sugar with fingertips until it looks like breadcrumbs.
- Sprinkle over the fruit, put the lid on and set it on the embers with a few coals on top.
- Check after twenty minutes; serve when it's golden and bubbling, once it has cooled.
