Saw a slice from a fallen branch, drill a hole, and write a name on it. A first tool session with something to wear home.

How it goes

  1. Set up the saw station: branch clamped or held on a saw horse, adult opposite.
  2. Each child saws a slice about as thick as a pound coin is wide, glove on the holding hand.
  3. Drill a hole near the edge with a hand drill.
  4. Sand the face, write a name or draw a symbol in pen, and thread onto string.
