Square-lashed photo frames

Four sticks, one meter of string and a square lashing at each corner — a real knot skill smuggled inside a craft, finished with a woven nature picture.

How it goes

  1. Everyone finds four straightish sticks about 30 cm long.
  2. Teach one square lashing slowly at the first corner; children do the remaining three.
  3. Weave wool loosely across the frame to make a 'canvas'.
  4. Tuck found treasures into the weave: leaves, feathers, seed heads.
  5. Hang the gallery from a low branch for pick-up time.
