Mini dens for woodland creatures

Build a tiny shelter for a toy animal or a peg person, using sticks, leaves and moss. All the thinking of den building, at a scale small hands can manage.

How it goes

1. Give each child a small toy animal or a peg person to look after.
2. Talk about what it needs: a roof, a dry floor, a door.
3. Children build a shelter at the base of a tree with sticks, bark, leaves and moss.
4. Test it with a sprinkle from a watering can.
5. Visit each other's dens and give a tour.
